unpopular opinion: stop washing your fabric before cutting

I know everyone says prewash everything but ive been sewing for 12 years and i almost never do it anymore unless its like a super saturated color that might bleed. most modern fabrics are preshrunk. if youre buying quality stuff it doesnt move that much. and honestly the finish on unwashed fabric is so much nicer to work with - it stays put, doesnt fray as bad, cuts cleaner. the only things i still wash: red/navy cotton, linen (but i actually like the texture after washing), and anything from joann lol am i crazy or does anyone else skip this step
