First pair of pants - suiting wool vs polyester vs blends?

Im making my first pair of pants. Do we prefer suiting wool, and if so super 120, gabardine, etc... or is polyester okay? Ive also seen cheaper viscose wool blends and cheaper elastane blends. What is best? Trying not to mess up expensive fabric on a first attempt but also dont want to make pants Ill never wear bc the fabric is bad.
