What fabric is actually beginner friendly for a structured skirt? I keep seeing wool crepe recommended.

Im about to make my first structured skirt and Ive seen wool crepe recommended in basically every guide. Is it actually beginner friendly or is it just the right answer that everyone defaults to? What about cotton sateen or a heavier linen, would those work too?
