Do you use stay tape on necklines? I never did until a jacket stretched out on me.

I made a beautiful jacket that fit perfectly when I finished it and within a few wears the neckline had stretched and now sits oddly. Someone told me I should have used stay tape. I had never even heard of it before. Is this something I should just do automatically on every neckline?
