How do you keep bias-cut fabric from stretching while you sew it?

Im attempting a bias-cut skirt for the first time and the fabric has already stretched alarmingly just from handling it while I was cutting. Ive read about hanging the cut pieces overnight but I dont know what other precautions to take during sewing.
