How do you add a lining to a pattern that doesnt include one?

I want to line a skirt pattern that doesnt have lining instructions. I understand the concept, cut the lining from the main pieces and attach at the waist, but Im fuzzy on the hem treatment and whether I need to make any adjustments to the lining pieces before cutting.
