What GSM is ideal for a structured midi skirt? I keep buying fabric thats too drapey.

I want to make a structured A-line midi skirt that holds its shape rather than clinging. Every time I buy something that sounds right it turns out to be too soft and drapey. I keep reading about GSM but the numbers dont mean anything to me yet in terms of how the fabric actually behaves.
