Anyone shortened a Deer and Doe pattern? How did you handle the hip curve?

I need to shorten a Deer and Doe skirt by about 3 inches and Im not sure whether to take it from the hem or from somewhere in the middle. The pattern has a hip curve that I dont want to distort. Does it matter where I shorten, and if I take it from the hem does the curve at the hip become a problem?
