How do you press wool without leaving shine marks? Ruined a jacket front last week.

I pressed the front of a wool blazer with a slightly too hot iron and now theres an unmistakable shine where the iron sat. The fabric is a medium weight charcoal wool. Is there any way to reverse this or is the piece ruined? And how do I prevent it next time?
