Whats the best fabric for a first structured blazer? Confused by all the options.

I want to make a blazer for the first time. I keep reading that I should use a medium weight wool but then I also read that beginners should avoid wool. Whats actually beginner friendly for a structured blazer, something that holds its shape, doesnt fray too badly, and is somewhat forgiving if I make mistakes?
