Where do you buy fabric online when you cant feel it first? How do you decide?

Ive had too many experiences buying fabric online that looked gorgeous and felt awful in person. Im especially bad at judging weight and drape from photos and descriptions. What information do you rely on? Do you order swatches? Are there shops where the descriptions are actually reliable?
