Unpopular opinion: buying fabric without a pattern in mind is just collecting, not sewing.

I know this will upset some people but Ive been thinking about it a lot. I used to buy fabric I loved with no plan and I have 50 yards of beautiful things I never made. Now I only buy fabric when I have a specific pattern and a specific garment in mind. My stash is smaller but my finished project rate is way up. Curious if anyone else has made this switch.
