Hand-stitching a jacket lapel - worth it?

Working on my first blazer and the pattern calls for hand pad stitching the lapels. Is this actually worth the 4-6 hours it supposedly takes? Will I really be able to tell the difference vs just fusing everything? Someone talk me into (or out of) this.
